The Marriage Blog Week in Review for April 28 – May 4

Lyn and I were joined by a familiar face last week, a former regular Marriage Blog contributor: Heather Long. Between the three of us we had a fair amount to say. In case you missed any of it, here’s your handy Week in Review! Monday, April 28 I suggested ways to recession proof your marriage with dinner. (And hopefully enhance it in the process.) Lyn addressed the problem of spending too much time online. (A problem both husbands and wives are guilty of.) Tuesday, April 29 Lyn contemplated the song “love me or let me go” and how it applies … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for July 30th – August 3rd

One of the challenges for writing the marriage blog is trying to see all the different twists, challenges and celebrations a marriage can encounter. We also try to address relationships both in and out of the marriage because our marriages are microcosms for our whole life and not just an isolated aspect of it. Monday, July 30th Household Chores and a Simple Thank You is something every couple that struggles over household chores should read. Conflicts about who does what in the household are one of the leading causes of marital discord. Showing your husband or wife genuine appreciation and … Continue reading

The Pets Blog Week in Review for Jul 23-29

There was one issue in particular that dominated this week in the Pets Blog –dogfighting! Both Aimee and myself had plenty to say on that issue. But we covered other things as well. To find out what, consult your week-at-a-glance breakdown below. Monday, July 23 Aimee wrote about a group in Pennsylvania called Dogs Deserve Better. They’re trying to raise awareness about the cruelty and dangers of chaining via an event called Unchain the Fifty, where they try to get one person in each state to spend a minimum of eight hours chained to a doghouse. Tuesday, July 24 There … Continue reading

A Messy Wednesday

Looks like all three of us in the Amodio household (apartmenthold) aren’t feeling well today. I’ve been having some sort of allergy attack, complete with stuffy nose and post-nasal drip. On the four-legged front, Moose didn’t eat his breakfast — and he never misses a meal. And Lally barfed twice in the living room. A fun day for all. Of course, I was out of my usual favorite pet mess cleaner: Nature’s Miracle. That stuff is truly great for getting colorful messes out of the carpet AND neutralizing the scents that tempt pets to revisit the spot. But since I’m … Continue reading

The Baby Blog Week in Review for Jan. 27 to Feb. 2

Good evening! I am writing this week’s baby blog in review. Heather has taken some time off today to spend with her daughter. If you want to see what’s going on new in Heather’s life, you can check out one of her recent blogs. If you missed something in the baby blog this week, check it out here to catch up! Saturday, January 27 In, As a Parent. . .I Have Arrived, I talk about how the newborn stage seems so difficult. But then it passes so quickly. If you need a little perspective, this is a great place to … Continue reading

Because That’s The Way Mom Did It

When I was growing up, one day a week both my mother and my grandmother cleaned their houses. For one entire day we kids were banished from the house while Mom dusted, vacuumed, did laundry, wiped baseboards, cleaned the kitchen and the bathroom and scrubbed all the floors. Needless to say when I got my first apartment I followed the same routine. Every Saturday I cleaned and did laundry. At the end of the day I was proud of how my house looked but didn’t like the fact that I had to give up one full day on the weekend … Continue reading

What is it about Moose and Summer?

Oh yes, it’s time for another thrilling installment of How My Dog Moose Tried to Scare Me to Death. A quick recap: in June of 2007, Moose slipped his collar and got hit by a car. He broke his tail very close to the base of his spine, and had to have the whole thing removed. In July of last year, he started throwing up blood clots thanks to a giardia infestation. Once again, the warm weather brings out the worst in Moose. My poor boy has always had a sensitive stomach, so I’m pretty familiar with how to handle … Continue reading

Reviewing Priorities

Is there something your husband or wife does that’s sure to piss you off? I’m not talking something major, like cheating or spending thousands of dollars irresponsibly. (Though those would be prime pisser offer actions.) Rather, I’m referring to the little things. The not changing the toilet paper roll when it’s used up. The not rinsing off the dirty dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. (Or the opposite, for those of you out there who don’t see the value in rinsing dishes that are just going in the dishwasher anyway.) The leaving dirty clothes where they lay rather than … Continue reading

Just When I Think I Understand Them…

I’ve had my dogs, Moose and Lally, for a few years now. Lally joined the family in September 2003; Moose was adopted in January 2004. But just when I think I know them pretty well and can guess what they’re going to do… they surprise me. A good friend of mine bought a pair of cushy beds for her dogs, only to find that the dogs weren’t fond of them. She gave one of the beds to me in the hopes that I could reclaim my sleeping bag from Moose and Lally. And let me tell you — this is … Continue reading

Creative Messes

When it comes to making messes, it seems like pets are the pros! (Toddlers may be in the running for the Most Creative Mess title, too.) Something my dog Lally ate this week didn’t agree with her. (She tends to have a sensitive stomach.) I woke up to find little piles of barf (mostly bile) in the hallway. But they weren’t just any piles of barf — they were arranged in a circle, as if Lally was turning around as she was sick. If you imagine a compass rose, she had barf at all the cardinal points — north, south, … Continue reading
