Star Baby News—-Who’s Welcoming a New Addition in 2008

Last month rumors were swirling that Matt Damon’s former “Good Will Hunting” co-star and ex-girlfriend Minnie Driver was due to give birth to her first baby this summer. While the actress’ camp remains mum about the news, the New York Post has decided to spread the good word claiming the rumor is indeed fact and reports its “spies” recently spotted Driver and a friend outside a Los Angeles-area doctor’s office looking at sonogram pictures. The 37-year-old star of “A Socialite’s Life” is reportedly keeping the identity of the father under wraps, though some tabloids are saying that Driver’s current English … Continue reading

The Pets Blog Week in Review for Jan 29 – Feb 4

What a week! We said goodbye to January and hello to February. Here’s a breakdown of the hot topics Aimee and myself covered this past week in the Pets Blog. Monday, January 29 I sat down and talked with Sherlockian Author E.J. Wagner and her Dr. Watson, RL (Resident Labrador). Then it became obvious January wasn’t the only thing we were going to bid farewell to last week. In a tender piece recounting his rise to glory and the disease he ultimately could not outrun, Aimee shared how Barbaro’s Journey Ended. Tuesday, January 30 Murphy inspired how to pointers in … Continue reading

A New Life For The Los Angeles River

You may have seen it on the news or in a Hollywood car chase — the concrete channel known as the Los Angeles River. Most people think of it as “that box channel off the freeway.” The flood-control channel has been considered a possible alternative route to clear up clogged freeways, but is now being considered for a more natural use. Conservationists from the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy would like to turn the fifty-one mile waterway into a federal wildlife sanctuary. It will take millions of federal dollars to buy up the land along the concrete waterway and destroy some … Continue reading

Phyllis Diller Dead at 95

The world lost a truly iconic comedian yesterday. Phyllis Diller died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Los Angeles yesterday at the age of 95. (This file is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0) Diller was a pioneer for women comedians. She set the way for all of today’s female comedians, even Joan Rivers, who Diller called her protege. Rivers paid homage to Diller yesterday saying that Diller was the first to compete with male comedians and taught her something important – to be “very simple.” Much of Diller’s comedy centered on home life – something many … Continue reading

Upcoming Genealogy Events – Week of April 22, 2012

It can be fun, exciting, and entertaining to attend a genealogy event, class, or workshop. Before you can do that, though, you have to find them. Here are some upcoming genealogy events that will take place this week. There could be one near you! On April 23, 2012, the Charlevoix Public Library, which is located in Charlevoix, Michigan, will continue its series of genealogy classes. This one is called “Using the Internet to Find Your Ancestors”. The class will be taught by professional genealogist Carol McWain Goodenough, and her associate, Barbara Manley Hernden. The class begins at 6:30 in the … Continue reading

“Up” House Flies — For Real

Many months ago I posted that Utah-based real estate company had built a house modeled after the one from “Up”. Well that’s been sold now, so unless you’ve got enough money to build a customized house, there goes your opportunity to live in in Carl and Ellie’s home. But it’s not your only chance to check out real-life versions of the most famous flying home since Dorothy’s Kansas abode. Last year National Geographic built a wooden house-sized structure and lifted it into the air using balloons. It was all part of a feature for the National Geographic’s “How Hard Can … Continue reading

He’s Got Her Wrapped Around His Little Finger!

Chase has been dating Amy, a 28 year old single mother, for over a year. Things are getting serious; they’ve even been batting around the “M” word. She is attractive, kind, funny, considerate, and they both love to fish and camp. In a nutshell, she’s everything he’s been looking for in a life partner…except for one little thing… a twenty-eight pound, 3 year old little thing, named Marcus. “Now don’t get me wrong, he’s really cute and everything” admits Chase, “but she jumps every time he cries! And I mean every time! He has totally got her wrapped around his … Continue reading

Zack Weinstein Adds to the Diversity of Glee

If you are a Gleek like I am (a fan of the new Fox series “Glee”), you’ve probably noticed the popular show about a high school glee club features quite a diverse group of characters. Puck and Rachel are Jewish, Artie is in a wheelchair, Tina is an Asian with a stutter (albeit fake), Quinn is the popular but pregnant cheerleader, Kurt is gay, and Mercedes is African American and overweight. Even the guidance counselor, Emma, is a germaphobe. This week, the show introduced a new character – Sean. Sean is a football camp friend of Finn’s who has suffered … Continue reading

Big Babies Bounce into Hollywood

Looking back at Minnie Driver’s pre-delivery pictures she didn’t look as though she was particularly heavy. While pictures can be deceiving (and the actress is relatively tall), I was still surprised that she gave birth to a nearly 10-pound baby boy last week. According to Driver’s rep, the “Good Will Hunting” star became a first-time mom to son Henry Story Driver last Friday in Los Angeles. Baby Henry weighed in at a healthy 9 lbs., 12 oz. and mother and son are reportedly doing “splendid.” As for the identity of the child’s father, well, that remains a mystery. Thirty-eight-year-old Driver … Continue reading

California Homeschool Groups and Resources C-D

To succeed in homeschooling, it is in your best interest to get involved with other homeschoolers. You should join a homeschool network or group near you. For this reason, I have decided to give a full listing of homeschooling groups throughout each state. Yes, there are other sites that list homeschool networks and support groups but none of are comprehensive. Some of them only list Christian, others only list those affiliated with them. I will attempt to list all of them. In California, homeschoolers are required to register under and umbrella school or to start a private school to homeschool. … Continue reading
