Borders Pet Project

A good friend of mine just sent this to my attention. If you are interested in participating, I will warn you that the deadline is rapidly approaching for it. It's this Saturday, March 31. (Sorry. I would've given more notice if I had come across it sooner.)

What It Is

Borders is putting together a book called Hopeful Tails: Stories of Rescued Pets and Their Forever Families. It will feature stories and accompanying photos of pets who came from shelters, off the streets, or abusive situations and the people who brought them home.

How to Submit

For consideration to be included in the book, you must go to the Borders Pet Project site and use their online submission form.

You'll be asked to fill out information about yourself, such as your name and address. Then you'll be asked to provide information about your pet. First you're asked for the basics (name, type, and age). Next you'll be asked to give three words to describe your pet. Three other sections ask you about how you decided on an adopting a pet, "how your pet came to be with you," and then you can share a story, poem, anecdote, or remembrance about your pet (up to 1,000 words).

The final step is to upload a photo.

If you're selected, you'll be contacted by August 31, 2007.

What's In It For Me?

There's no payment involved if your story and/or photo is accepted. One person's pet will be chosen as the Border's Pet, though. This pet will then be used in all of the promotional campaigns, including being featured on the cover! (The parent receives pet care books from Howell Book House.)

You'll also get the satisfaction of knowing you're helping the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. (A portion of sales will be donated to them.)

When Can I Get a Copy?

Fall 2007 is the projected release date, but pre-orders are being accepted now at BordersStores.com.
