I mean to tell you, Murph has not minded his hurt paw very much. Another title for this blog could have easily been: "Murph Makes Out Like a Bandit." That's what's happened ever since Murphy's fan club got word of his demise.

Last Friday I was lamenting life without Murphy. He ended up getting the go ahead to come home that day. (Thankfully.) But coming home meant making some changes to our lifestyle.

My dog Miko loved my old station wagon. It was a Ford Country Squire LTD -- a huge island of car with wood paneling, pleather bench seating and lots of windows. Miko would stand on the armrests and stick his head out the open window and "surf" while I drove.

When I invite a friend over, I go into a bit of a cleaning frenzy. I vacuum and dust and clean the bathroom... but I also brush the couches and pick mud out of the door tracks.

When Murphy picked his part in the personal pet therapy project, he did so without complaint --but with much sacrifice. Among other things, gone were his leisurely walks multiple times a day.

It occurred to me this evening -- as I was dicing chicken and string beans for the dogs' supper -- that I've become the Crazy Dog Lady. I really think I crossed the line when I started making my own dog food. There was all the time spent figuring out my recipe.
