Puli

Just like the Komondor, the Puli is a Hungarian breed with a distinctive, corded coat. Where the Komondor is only white or buff-colored, the Puli may be black, gray, or white. In the two breeds, the coat is similar: a soft, wooly undercoat and a wiry, curly top coat.

If you've ever watched a dog show, you may have noticed a few breeds out there with corded coats. The Komondor is one of them. The dense, corded coat is a main characteristic of the breed. As a puppy, the Komondor has a soft, curly coat.

I once saw a Shiba Inu puppy at a pet store and totally fell in love with the breed. Shibas are the smallest of the native dog breeds that come from Japan. It is one of the breeds declared national monuments by Japan -- that list also includes akitas and the Japanese chin.

Best in Show at the seventh annual AKC/Eukanuba National Championship was Charmin, a Sealyham terrier from Cochranville, Pennsylvania. The representative of the terrier group won the largest dog show prize in the world -- fifty thousand dollars. The breed comes from Haverfordwest, Wales.

Dog Breed: Bullmastiff

The bullmastiff was -- as you might guess -- bred from the Old English Mastiff as a watchdog. The breed is 60% Mastiff and 40% bulldog. The breed was developed in the late 1800s specifically by gamekeepers to protect game on reserves and large estates from poachers.
