How Much Do You Feed Your Pets?

My dog Moose would eat until he hurt himself, if he had the opportunity. He's not what I'd call "self-regulating" when it comes to meals. If the food is there, he'll eat it. If my other dog's food is there, he'll try to eat that, too. My dog Lally, on the other hand, IS self-regulating.

I was driving home from work yesterday and I saw something that had me pretty upset: a little white dog tied up to a car antenna in the middle of a parking lot. My first thought was: what a dumb place to tie your dog. But it isn't just stupid, it's irresponsible. It endangers the dog.

Yesterday I wrote about vet schools perhaps being an alternative to costly vet procedures. Something I quickly realized was that vet schools aren't just like regular vets with cheaper prices. Most require referrals from your current vet.

Thursday we had our meeting with the specialist to see about Murph's paw. Turns out he needs surgery. A very costly one at that, upwards of $3,000. Drat. Thursday I ran into a girl I used to play volleyball with. We got to talking about our dogs and I mentioned Murph's malady to her.

I covered the double standard of euthanasia as it applies to man vs. animal, but there are other double standards, too. Spaying and Neutering I believe "castration" is the term used for humans.

As I'm watching The Greatest American Dog, I can't help but wonder what gives us the right to treat our pets certain ways. It's something I think about from time to time anyway, but more so now that I've been watching the challenges on the show.
