Chaotic Cat Chronicles: The Case of the Missing Wiffie

We've got a big problem in our house. Tabby's beloved wiffie is missing.

I sort of feared this very thing happening. She has other toys, her huts, and even a new "crinkle cave," but her all-time, number one favorite is her wiffie.

Tabby in the crinkle cave.

It wasn't until yesterday that I realized something was missing. There hadn't been a certain nighttime racket either preventing me from falling to sleep or waking me up. Then it dawned on me, "She hasn't been whapping her wiffie around!"

Which was a relief to realize, because poor Tab just hasn't been herself lately. I had been worried she might be sick with something again. She's been a little mopey, not as wild, not as loving. She's just sort of been hanging out by herself on her step. (She likes to sprawl on the second or third from the top stair and keep an eye on things.) Her appetite's been fine though. If that had been affected I would have scheduled a trip to the vet.

But now I'm pretty sure she's suffering melancholy over her lost wiffie, so the search is on to try and find it. I've searched all the usual places downstairs --behind the TV, behind doors, behind the refrigerator, etc.--but so far nothing. This morning I remembered some places to look upstairs that used to be routine when she was in the habit of carrying her wiffie upstairs. But there wasn't any wiffie to be found under the bed, dresser, or nightstand.

I'm really at a loss of places to look now. And I fear Mr. Meow knows more than he's telling. Lately he's taken great pleasure in harassing her, and before the wiffie went missing he was taking great pleasure in perching atop it and claiming it for his own.

Murph's coonhound instincts haven't proved very useful either, I'm afraid. He hasn't been able to sniff out it's whereabouts. And frankly I don't think he's trying very hard. Maybe he's enjoying the peace of uninterrupted slumbers...
