Most Popular Pet Names of 2008

Around the end of the year (or the start of a new year), it’s not unusual to see lists appear. Popular names for boys and girls are always a favorite… but did you see the lists of popular names for pets? The ten most popular names for dogs and cats were collected by VPI — Veterinary Pet Insurance. The company insures more than four hundred thousand pets around the United States, and scoured their database to find the most popular names for pets in the past year. (Since they only looked at their clients, the lists might be a bit … Continue reading

Celebrating a Second Anniversary as a Pets Blogger

Two years ago today I officially started on with Families.com as one of their newest Pets Bloggers. Ironically enough, two years later on my anniversary date, here I’ve turned in my two weeks notice. (I just realized as I started writing this that I did that on my start date anniversary.) It’s been a good ride, a very fun ride, and an amazingly informative one. I’ll still be around for the next couple of weeks, but I wanted to take a moment and reflect on some of my favorite blogs from the past couple of years. A Few of My … Continue reading

Diary of a Cat Care B&B: Great Escapes

Last week at the cats only boarding facility, we had two guests make a break for it within the same day. The first escape artist was a pudgy grey cat named Tee. Miss Tee waited until everybody went home for the night and then snuck out. She managed to squeeze her way out the sliding glass door that separates the main boarding room from the rest of the facility. I can only imagine how Tee entertained herself all night long. Frolicking in the waiting room on the veterinarian side? Exploring the surgery room? Investigating the storage areas? One of the … Continue reading

The Mis-Naming of Cats

I’ve been working at the cats only boarding facility since December. In the last few months, I’ve met cats with all sorts of creative, funny, or unique names. Some of my favorites are Squad Car, Count Catula, and Big Kitty. Today, we were expecting a guest with the most unique name of all — a cat named Hot Guy. To be honest, I imagined a cat named Hot Guy belonging to a college kid. Wouldn’t you love to call home and tell your parents that your roommate is a hot guy? We were expecting four cats in this morning, and … Continue reading

Diary of a Cat Care B&B: Absolute Cuteness!

Do you ever experience those moments with a pet that are just too cute to be real? Incidents that belong on the movie screen — or at least on a funny pet video show? We recently had a young cat at the cats only boarding facility. An adorable grey tabby, less than a year old, with big eyes and a knack for getting into trouble. His name (Jinxie) totally suited him. And he did all kinds of cute things while he was with us: His curious paws would knock (or pull) things off the storage shelves. He actually managed to … Continue reading

The Pets Blog Week in Review for February 4-10

It’s time to shake things up in the Week in Review again. I’m trying a slightly varied approach to recapping the articles Aimee and I wrote for the previous week. Monday, February 4 Who were the puppy players? What kind of plays did they make and what penalties were called? And who was named MVP? All was revealed in Puppy Bowl IV Play-by-Play. In About the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, Aimee discussed another major dog event that also took place over the weekend and detailed some tidbits you might not know about it. Tuesday, February 5 Aimee decided it was high … Continue reading

Diary of a Cat Care B&B: The Naming of Cats

The first musical I ever saw on Broadway was Cats — I used to listen to the soundtrack (on vinyl) over and over. There’s a song about the naming of cats that I still can remember the lyrics for: The naming of cats is a difficult matter It isn’t just one of those holiday games… You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter When I tell you a cat must have three different names. The song goes on to say WHY a cat has three different names, including the secret name that they only tell to other … Continue reading
