Feeding Tips from the B&B

It’s not rare for clients to ask you for pet care advice when you work in a pet-centric business. This morning, I was chatting with a cat owner about ways she could encourage her kitty to gain weight. One of the things I suggested was good old baby food — a standby for our guests who have food allergies, dietary restrictions, or sensitive stomachs. Plain meat baby food is usually appealing to cats but still gentle on the stomach… so it’s often a winner when a guest won’t eat or isn’t feeling quite right. The client was surprised that she … Continue reading

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Kittymas!

I celebrated my two year anniversary at the cats-only boarding facility just two weeks ago. The time has definitely flown by! My anniversary comes right in the middle of our busiest season: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. We had nearly fifty guests for Turkey Day, and are expecting just over fifty guests for Christmas! That’s still a low number, compared to the sixty-five we had my very first holiday season at the boarding facility. But what a way to learn the job! I had plenty of coworkers around for questions and help, and plenty of cats to work with — … Continue reading

If my other dog’s food is there, he’ll try to eat that, too. My dog Lally, on the other hand, IS self-regulating. If she isn’t hungry, she won’t eat. If I only had her, I could leave dry food out all the time and she’d nibble throughout the day, as needed. It’s what I did before Moose joined the family! At the moment, my dogs get three … Continue reading

Diary of a Cat Care B&B: I’m in Charge!

Thanks to a wacky set of coincidences that have both my coworkers unavailable, I’m in charge of the cats-only boarding facility for the next few days. I won’t be making any drastic changes during my reign of terror… but I do have some projects I’d like to tackle. A few big cleaning projects. We do wipe down, mop, and sanitize the playroom several times per day… but I’m dying to get the scrub brush and make that floor sparkle. Same with some spots in the main boarding room that get mopped frequently but need some elbow grease and hot water … Continue reading
