Have you seen ads for ionic brushes for pets? They don't just brush the fur -- they can also help reduce pet smells.

So how do they work? Ionic brushes break down water molecules in your pet's coat and release safe levels of ozone into the air. This helps neutralize pet smells.

The advantages of an ionic brush:

• An ionic brush can be used instead of a full bath. Sure, sometimes a bath is necessary, but regular brushing with an ionic brush can help keep pet odors at a minimum.
• Brushing your pet is a great way to bond! You get to spend some quality time together while you're brushing.
• Regular brushing helps keep your pet's coat and skin healthy. You'll also get a chance to check for any bumps, wounds, and other irregularities -- catching potential health problems early.
• Using an ionic brush after a bath can help cut down drying times.

The disadvantages of an ionic brush:

• They're not silent. Some pets won't sit still for a brush that makes noise.
• Old fashioned brushes work on arm-power only; ionic brushes need batteries in order to break down water molecules and release ozone.

I bought an ionic brush for my parents' chow mix, Becca. She's not really a fan of brushing in general, and the noise of the ionic brush just made it worse. I have a feeling my dog Lally wouldn't like an ionic brush for the same reason -- she's already kind of skittish when it comes to unusual noises. On the other hand, my dog Moose probably wouldn't mind an ionic brush one bit. He loves to be brushed... and he tends to be the stinkier of my two dogs. So for Moose, an ionic brush might be a great solution!
