Open Enrollment for Medicare Ends Soon

Many health insurance plans have what is called an “open enrollment” period. It is the time when people can make changes to their health plans. The end of the open enrollment period for Medicare is coming up fast! Medicare is a public form of health insurance. It covers people who are age 65 or older. It also covers people (of any age) who have End Stage Renal Disease. Medicare also covers people who are younger than age 65 and who have certain types of disabilities. There are four different parts to Medicare. Part A is “Hospital Insurance”. It covers inpatient … Continue reading

California Will Soon Have Self-Driving Cars

California might soon become the second state to allow the use of self-driving automobiles on the roads. The California state Senate of authorizing legislation has unanimously approved of legislation for it. I don’t think the legislation specifically tackles issues about autonomous cars and auto insurance, though. Not too long ago, Google made some self-driving vehicles. The cars have gone through a series of safety tests. Google’s research showed that their autonomous vehicles are safer than the typical vehicles that are driven manually by humans. The fleet of Google’s self-driving Priuses drove over 2,000 miles and only had a total of … Continue reading

Routines Are Good For Toddlers And Parents Too

Many toddlers (and their parents) benefit from having routines that they follow on a daily basis. Routines do not have to be rigid or make you feel trapped. For toddlers, routines provide a sense of order which helps them to feel secure because they know what they can usually expect to be happening and when. As your toddler grows, routines can even help him or her to learn things like how to tell time and days of the week. For adults, routines are a great time management tool which can help them to get the things they need to do … Continue reading

My New Business Tool

After what seems like an endless chain of events, my husband and I finally upgraded our cell phones to smartphones. We were going to get iPhones, and we did in fact have iPhones for almost one day. After a little more deliberation (we tend to do a lot of research before we buy things) we chose to go with Android phones. Our new Motorola Droid 4 phones arrived yesterday and I activated mine as soon as I opened the box. It has been active for a little more than a day and it is already proving itself to be an … Continue reading

Celebrity Moms with Tattoos

Having a tattoo or multiple tattoos is the thing to do today – even for celebrity mothers. I won’t say the trend started with Angelina Jolie, but she certainly has to be considered a forerunner. Jolie already had several tattoos when she adopted her first child Maddox. But, after adopting Maddox, she got a tattoo of a Buddhist Pali incantation written in Khmer script on her left shoulder blade. This tattoo is supposed to protect Jolie and Maddox from bad luck. (This file, by Chris Natt, is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic license.) Jolie also has the … Continue reading

Farmers Market Season is Coming Soon

If you have ever thought about selling home grown fruits, vegetables, or herbs or home made items like jams, canned goods, and baked goods at your local farmer’s market, it is time to decide whether this will be the year. Although the air is still chilly and there is still plenty of snow on the ground, farmer’s market vendors and organizers are beginning to get things in order for the upcoming market season. The markets here in Vermont do not open until mid – May, but there is much to do between now and then. The first thing that you … Continue reading

Do You Blog About Your Homeschool?

Do you have a blog? And if so, do you blog about your homeschool? When you go online and type “homeschool blogs” into a web search, you have a wealth of information at your fingertips. Just a quick search in Google yielded me 4,110,000 results – wow. Think of all the resources those four million blogs could hold for me. Think of all the inspiration, the lesson ideas, the motivation I could get by tapping into that completely free resource. With all those blogs already in existence, is it still important for you to add the topic to your blog … Continue reading

Health Benefits to Retirees Could Soon Disappear

A federal health care law, that is part of the Affordable Care Act, is about to run out out funding. The law was designed to help employers be able to afford to offer health benefits to their retired workers. If the funding goes away, this could leave younger retirees completely without health insurance. It is called the Early Retiree Reinsurance Program. This program was created as part of the Affordable Care Act. It provided some funding that would enable employers to afford to continue to offer their retired employees a health insurance plan. Specifically, this was designed to help a … Continue reading

The Trend Toward Co-Blogging and Blog Contributors

I first began blogging about two years ago. Up until that point I had not even read a blog. I began blogging to house my writing and share my thoughts. I never intended for blogging to become an important part of my life. I’m a wife with four kids and a business. That last thing I needed was another thing on my plate. However, soon blogging became a passion of mine. In my time on the blogosphere I noticed an interesting trend. Solo bloggers are starting to become group bloggers. The trend is not lost on me. I contribute to … Continue reading
