The Top Pets Blogs of 2007: January – May

Aimee and I, along with the occasional guest blogger, tried our best to bring you informative, interesting, and entertaining articles this past year. But you seemed to like some more than others. So I decided to do a Year in Review recap of the ones that you responded most to. What Makes a “Top” Blog? Even though you all may enjoy most of the blogs we write, not all of them inspire you to leave comments or rate them. Those that received star ratings made the Top Blogs cut. January 2007 Top Blogs Assistance Dogs of the West and The … Continue reading

How the Stars Got Into the Sky

Have you heard the tales of the Native American trickster, Coyote? Sometimes Coyote is a helper and sometimes he is not, but he is always interesting. This is a tale of Coyote and how the stars got into the sky. A long time ago, when the world was young, there were no stars in the sky. The sky above was like a thick, blue blanket — the only light was the moon. A mystical man who could make things from fire thought it would be a very good idea to place shining balls of fire into the sky to make … Continue reading

A Much Needed Family Outing Part II

Once we were inside the Mars exhibit, we began to learn about the many different of what would be required to go to Mars.  We learned about space toilets that have to work without gravity.  We learned about the terrain of Mars and its many “dust storms.” We discovered that both of our children would be too light to be able to walk on Mars.  We learned about how all the things required for a civilization to flourish on Mars would get to Mars. We learned about tight living quarters and dehydrated food.  We learned more than we really wanted … Continue reading

Mom Robs Bank for Kids

Well, something like that. How many times have you considered robbing a bank in order to score some fast cash? Most of us joke about committing the federal offense at some time or another, especially during tough economic times. Of course, a joke is just that; something to laugh about. I’m sure most people don’t actually make serious plans to carry out the risky and illegal job. That goes double for parents. After all, parents are supposed to be role models for their kids and what kind of example are you setting if you are rotting in a jail cell … Continue reading

James Garner Suffers a Minor Stroke

Actor James Garner has suffered a minor stroke. The 80-year-old actor was hospitalized last week, but his publicist say he is doing well and should be returning home soon. The actor went into a Los Angeles hospital Friday after falling ill at his home. Publicist Jennifer Allen told the Associated Press “he’s still in the hospital but my understanding is he is doing well and will be going home soon. When, exactly, we have not been told yet.” Garner got his big break in show business when he landed the role of Bret Maverick in the comedy Western show “Maverick” … Continue reading

Celebs Flying High

Actress Angela Bassett says she is on Cloud 9 now that she has signed up to join the cast of NBC’s hit medical drama “ER.” It’s a historic moment for Bassett as this is the first time the Oscar-nominated star has committed to a full-time TV part. According to show producers, Bassett will play a troubled doctor who returns to Chicago after years in Indonesia helping the country’s medics deal with the aftermath of 2004’s tsunami. The addition of the “What’s Love Got To Do With” It star means the Emmy award-winning series’ 15th and final season will be the … Continue reading

Hairspray (2007)

I didn’t have the faintest idea what to expect going into “Hairspray.” I knew it was a comedy and I had heard rumors that John Travolta was in it and wore a dress, but I wasn’t expecting what I got. He wasn’t just in a dress – he was in a dress, fat suit, wig, and full makeup, portraying Edna Turnblad, mother of the main character. Her name is Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonksi) and she’s a little on the portly side. That doesn’t keep her from bustin’ a move at every chance – she loves to dance and is pretty … Continue reading

George Clooney Defends Britney Spears

George Clooney doesn’t have much to say about Britney Spears’ parenting skills (or lack there of), but he is coming to her defense regarding the way the paparazzi hounds her. The former “ER” hunk went public with harsh remarks aimed at the paparazzi during a recent interview with news reporters. Last week the 46-year-old actor pulled off to the side of an L.A. street while he was riding his motorcycle with his girlfriend, Sarah Larson. He then spent 10 minutes admonishing the paps for getting too close for comfort. In a video clip posted on TMZ.com Clooney lays into the … Continue reading

Bed Wars

I’ve written about dominance before — alpha dogs and omega dogs especially. And a few weeks ago, I mentioned how the balance of power in my four-legged family was shifting. For a long time now, we’ve had Bed Wars. Let me set the scene. (A black sky, white stars sparkling. Text scrolls upwards, a la Star Wars.) A long time ago, in a bedroom far, far away, two dogs were at war over a very important piece of territory: the bed. He (or she) who ruled the bed ruled the universe. The bed was a land of great prosperity and … Continue reading

Getting Even with Dad (1994)

“Getting Even with Dad” stars Ted Danson and Macaulay Culkin (both sporting really bad hairdos) as a father and son who haven’t seen each other in years. Ray (Danson) was arrested for stealing VCRs and spent a few years in jail, and when he was released, his wife asked for a divorce. She died of cancer not too long after that, so Timmy (Culkin) has been living with his aunt ever since. Ray wants to go straight and has been working in a bakery ever since his release from jail – he took a class on cake decorating in prison. … Continue reading
