Kitty Quirks: The Funny Ways He Says "I Love You"

Ah February ... the month for passion, romance, and love. I'm in a committed, loving marriage. Have been for the past eleven years. But I must confess, my heart doesn't belong solely to Wayne. I'm madly in love with two other fellas (albeit they're a little furrier than Wayne): Murphy and Kitty.

Like Wayne, Murphy has his ways of showing his love for me too, but Kitty's tends to endear itself more to my heart. Why? Because he's a cat, and anyone who knows cats knows how finicky, persnickety, and down right self-sufficient they can be. So in those moments when he lets his guard down and truly warms up to me ... my cup runneth over!

Here's some examples of what I mean:

Makin' Biscuits

In the beginning, when Kitty very first adopted us, he slept under the bed on my side. A couple of weeks later, he braved up and took to sleeping on top of the bed -smack on my head!

It didn't take long for him to train me how to share the pillow. However, I didn't mind because he indulged me with a nice head, neck, and shoulder massage. (Luckily he doesn't have front claws or this might have been more painful than pleasant.)

When I told a friend about how he kneads me, she said, "Oh yeah, makin' biscuits. My cat used to do that to me too."

"Makin' biscuits" is a rare treat these days, because he doesn't sleep on my head much anymore. Instead, he's taken up a new form of nighttime snuggling...

Holding Paws

Nowadays Kitty tucks himself right up against me. He especially likes to position himself in my belly nook if I'm turned on my side. Oftentimes one arm is outstretched, and he'll stretch out his paw and place it in the palm on my hand. Then, very gently, he'll squeeze, release, repeat.

I love when he does this. I'm usually overcome with such warmth from this bit of tenderness because his paws are so soft and the motion is so tender. It's a pure conveyance of love!

Maestro, Serenade Me!

Then there's his musical side. We first discovered this talent at our house in Jacksonville. There was an air return vent in the kitchen that he took to sitting in front of and plucking, as if it were a harp. After he finished, he'd turn around and let out a big "MEOW!"

I started applauding him when he'd do this, and complimenting him on his nice music. Then one day when I got a spot of bad news, I was in the kitchen having a good cry and Kitty came in. I said, "Why don't you cheer your mom up and play me a little song, Meow Meow." (One of his many nicknames.)

What did he do? Marched on over to his vent and pounded out a little ditty just for me. It cheered me right up! (And at the time I thought it was a fluke he responded to my request, but it wasn't. Nine times out of ten if we ask, he'll play for us!)

I love all my guys, and I know they love me too, but Kitty just has a way of making me feel extra specially loved.
