Life with Tabby the Stray

Yesterday I wrote about how I'm now a foster mom to a little stray girl we're calling Tabby. Every effort continues to be made to locate her people. We've fielded calls every day since Sunday when flyers went up and postings were made. Last night I had great hopes the efforts had paid off and a reunion was about to be had.

A very nice man who lost a cat in the same area where I found Tabby called. He described his Cleo as sweet, very affectionate, and small. Tabby fit all those bills! He emailed me a picture of her, but the thing is, Tabby has a distinct tail. It's not deformed or anything, but it's not quite as long as normal tails. I couldn't really tell much about Cleo's tail from the picture, but the face and markings were similar enough that maybe, just maybe, she was his. I wrote back to say, "Hey, this is a close call. You may want to come look at her."

Unfortunately, our Tabby wasn't his Cleo. We have high hopes one day soon we'll get "the" call, though.

Until then, we continue to adjust to life with our little charge. Tabby took to Murphy right away, much to everyone's surprise (but maybe to Murph's most of all). The second I decided to test those waters and open the door to reveal her to him, instead of bristling and hissing like I expected, Tabby marched right on up and rubbed against his front legs. Now she follows Murph wherever he goes and has clearly adopted him.

Murphy and Tabby, naptime buddies...

Mr. Meow, on the other hand, wasn't too happy with me the first few days. He was the personification of "sour puss," refusing to come snuggle with me at night or greet me in the morning. But the last two days he's been very curious about the new cat in town. It's become evident he prefers when the door to the room we keep her in is open. He likes to sneak up the stairs and "check in on her." Yesterday he made bold attempts at befriending her, but she made it clear she wasn't ready yet.

While the search for her rightful owner continues, Wayne, Murph, and Kitty have proved to be very accommodating to the little girl with the funny tail and sweet disposition. I have a feeling when the time comes to say goodbye, I'm going to have three extremely disappointed fellas on my hands.
