Lost Dog Reunion Story: Rocko the Beagle

A couple of weeks ago I was listening to Today while washing dishes. Before they went to commercial I heard them talk about a story coming up in the next half hour. Something to do with a little girl who had lost her dog when she was five, but now, five years later, had been reunited with it.

I had meant to watch it, but didn't. (I think the phone rang and distracted me.) I did, however, scour the Internet to read about it.

Rocko the Beagle

Rocko the beagle started life with the Naranjo family in Queens, New York. He was just a puppy when he escaped through a hole in the backyard fence one day. They'd only had him two months.

Even though the Naranjos hadn't had him long, they'd implanted him with a microchip. It hadn't seemed to help. No one ever called saying they'd found him. Either because of the microchip or the numerous signs and fliers they'd posted.

But five years later...

A Call from Liberty County, Georgia

Someone turned Rocko in as a stray to Liberty Animal Control on July 5. Animal control scanned him, found he had a chip, called the owner info that popped up and...

"What do you mean you found Rocko in Georgia? He's been missing for five years!"

Reunited

Nicholas Naranjo and his stepdad flew into the Savannah airport to pick Rocko up. Nicholas's daughter is 11 now, but she never forgot Rocko the beagle pup. She was among the most overjoyed of the family members that he'd been found, and would be returned.

Nicholas and his stepdad rented a car to drive Rocko back home to New York. The Naranjo clan has expanded somewhat since Rocko was last with them. There are two other dogs and a cat, but from what was reported Rocko is fitting in well with his other four-legged siblings.
