When it comes to monitor lizards, the Savannah monitor is one of the easiest to keep. Keep in mind, though, that the Savannah monitor may not be the best choice for beginners. Monitors are extremely strong lizards and can be difficult to handle — a beginner might be better off with a different breed. The Savannah monitor is considered a mid-sized monitor. While monitor lizards are not the best choice for beginners, they can be an intelligent and interesting pet for skilled reptile hobbyists. Monitor lizards get their genus name — varanus — from an Arabic word that means “monitor”. These lizards have an occasional habit of standing on their two hind legs. A Significant Gift?

Because I suspect Tabby’s behavior was a harbinger of my mom’s stroke, I’ve been watching her more carefully these days. If she’s more cuddly with my mom than usual, or more vocal, I monitor my mom’s every move like you wouldn’t believe. Loose Lizard Lends to Utilizing Tabby’s New Skill

The other day I had to laugh because I had just written about all the crazy animal stories on the news lately when one more, this time local in nature, aired. It was about a rather large (three feet long) and unusual lizard captured in a nearby state park. The lizard wasn’t all that unusual as far as being a rare species that hasn’t been seen for years or anything of that nature. It was a run of the mill monitor lizard.
