Dog Days of Summer: Pets on Vacation

Pet owners face a unique situation when making our summer travel plans: we have to worry about our pets. Do we only go places where we can take our pets, or do we try to find care for them while we’re away? Website Pet Relocation released its third annual Summer Pet Travel Survey. They found that 70% of the people questioned plan to travel with their pets. If you want to take your animals along with you on vacation this summer, there are a few things you have to consider. Make sure you can bring your animal with you where … Continue reading

Flying in Style with Pet Airways

A new airline is soaring through the clouds… and people aren’t allowed to ride. Pet Airways is a new service flying cats and dogs across the United States. How it all began: you can blame a little dog named Zoe. Zoe belongs to the owners of Pet Airways. Like many pet owners, they found it challenging to arrange travel with Zoe in the family. If they wanted to fly somewhere, Zoe was a little too big to ride under the seat (some airlines allow pets of a certain size to ride in the cabin). But they didn’t want their furry … Continue reading

Murphy, Mr. Meow, and Tabby’s Dream House

Photo by Srgjan Spasik As you may have read me mention before, we’re moving. This has posed a variety of problems, from getting the pets out of the picture to showing issues. But it’s also generating some happy excitement as well. We haven’t even sold our current house yet, but that’s not stopping us from dreaming about all we hope for our new one. And when I say “we,” I do mean the entire Team Pryor clan. Murphy Dreams Of… A large fenced-in backyard. One with trees full of lots of squirrels (and maybe an opossum or two) for chasing, … Continue reading

Spice The Survivor

She’s not the newest member of the Spice Girls… Spice is a calico cat who spent three weeks in a shipping container without food or water and lived to meow the tale. The Escamilla family was moving from Waikoloa Village, Hawaii to a new home in Southern California. While packing up a large shipping container, three year old Spice mysteriously disappeared. The family couldn’t find the cat before their flight to their new home, and kept calling neighbors back home to see if she’d turned up. She didn’t. It turns out Spice spent the nearly three week long journey across … Continue reading

The Great Large Dog Road Trip

Success! After weeks of web surfing, emailing, calling, and questioning, I’ve finally found an apartment that is willing to take me and my two dogs, Moose and Lally. We’ll be headed west from New Jersey on May 7th. And there’s about a million things to do beforehand. Have to call the vet and schedule appointments for both dogs — I want to make sure they get a complete physical and have refills on things like heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative. I’ll also need a copy of their vet records to come with me. I’m going to get one of those … Continue reading

The Great Large Dog Apartment Search

Moose and Lally and I are on the brink of a great adventure. We’re planning a move from the east coast (New Jersey to be exact) to the west coast (somewhere in the Portland metro area). We’d like it to happen some time this spring. And that’s where things got difficult. As if searching long-distance for a place to live wasn’t hard enough, I have the pups to consider. And there’s no way I’m leaving them behind! Lally is a boxer/shar-pei mix, weighing in at around 55 pounds. Moose is a German shepherd mix, way overweight at 105 pounds. We … Continue reading
