If you've been thinking about adopting a homeless dog from an animal shelter, October is a great time to do it. Petfinder.com has declared that October is Adopt A Shelter Dog Month!

Taking on an extra family member can be a big responsibility. You are making a financial commitment to the care and feeding of your dog. You're going to need money for big things like emergency vet visits and small things like toys and treats. You're going to need to have plans for pet care if you have to go away for business or plan a family vacation. But for all the financial costs of owning a pet, the emotional benefits are infinite!

For all the times I've been on my hands and knees, scrubbing up poop or barf... for all the tears I cried when my Miko passed away... for all the frustrations of chasing Moose when he makes an escape... I wouldn't give up one second of my time with my dogs. I wouldn't give up one bit of the unconditional love they have given me.

Want to promote Adopt A Shelter Dog Month but aren't ready to take on a four-legged family member? Here are some ways you can show your support for Petfinder.com and your local shelters:

  1. Pick up some Petfinder.com gear for you and your pets.
  2. Have a website? Add information about adoptable pets to your site. You can choose to feature animals from all over the country, or just those in your area. Check it out on my website, NewroticGirl.com!
  3. Send away for a free Petfinder.com bumper sticker. Just send a self-addressed mailing LABEL and a stamp to: Bumper Sticker, PO Box 51, Carterville MO 64835. Stick it on your car to bring Petfinder on the road with you.
  4. Talk to your employers about inviting a local shelter to visit the office with some adoptable pups for a meet and greet. Help your coworkers find new furry friends!
  5. Click the purple button at The Animal Rescue Site every day to help raise money for animal shelters! Your clicks mean the site earns more money from sponsors, which turns into many bowls of food for homeless animals.
  6. Be a responsible pet owner! That means spaying or neutering your pet to fight overpopulation. That means training your pet or taking him to obedience classes so he knows how to act around people.

Click daily to earn money for animal rescue!
