The Pets Blog Week in Review for April 7-14

Guinea pigs, poop, and DIY aquarium troubleshooting were among the topics Aimee and I covered last week. In case you had to miss a day or two, here’s your handy Week in Review recap of what we wrote on: Monday, April 7 I’ve had a chance to do a lot of reflecting lately on who I am and how I got to be that way. In What if Animals Hadn’t Been Okay? I pondered what sad shape I’d be in if I had been taught differently about pets. Tuesday, April 8 In DIY Aquarium Leak Fixes, Aimee rolled up her … Continue reading

The Pets Blog Week in Review for October 22-28

I’m going to try a new format this week in the Pets Blog Week in Review. One fellow bloggers such as Michele Cheplic, Nicole Humphrey, Mary Ann Romans, and Karri Weathers use in their various blog topics. I’ll post the title of articles Aimee and I wrote under the dates and then summarize what the articles were about. Monday, October 22 Adventures with Murphy: Spotting Albino Critters It seems Murph’s a white critter magnet, as evidenced when we spotted yet another albino critter on a walk. This time a white chipmunk in our neighborhood. Tuesday, October 23 Welcoming Puppy: Throwing … Continue reading

Pets and Repair People

Photo by Thiago Felipe Festa This week I finally got around to calling GE to schedule a repair on our dishwasher, which was part of their massive dishwasher recall. The day before the technician was scheduled to come out, a computer called to verify that I wanted to keep the appointment. After I confirmed I did, the computer voice informed me that if I was a household with a dog or cat I either needed to stay on the line or press another button (I forget which it was now) to hear some important information about how my pets could … Continue reading

Rabbit Saves Family from Fire

Maybe I’m a little biased for headlines that contain the word “saves” and the name of an animal. Whether it’s one animal saving another, an animal doing so for a human, or humans returning the favor, I’m a sucker for these stories. So if I post too often on the topic let me know in the comments section below, along with suggestions for the types of stories you’d rather see more often. If I don’t hear to the contrary, then I’ll just assume you all love these tales as much as I do. Today I’ve got what’s certainly one of … Continue reading

Thanksgiving Day Has the Most Cooking Accidents

Be careful how you cook that turkey! Thanksgiving is the day when the most cooking accidents occur. Many of these accidents happen due to the misuse of turkey fryers. Make sure that you are following the safety rules for fryers, so you won’t end up in the hospital on Thanksgiving. Deep fried turkey is tasty. Millions of Americans agree with that statement, and use a turkey fryer to cook their turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately, not everyone is following the safety rules that go along with these types of deep fryers. This is part of the reason why Thanksgiving Day … Continue reading

Fisher-Price Recall Angers Parents

It’s the talk of Twitter: Toy giant Fisher-Price is recalling more than 10 million trikes, toys and high chairs due to safety concerns. It’s not too often that I have to worry about mass recalls, but my daughter actually owns one of the toddler trikes that Fisher-Price is recalling. According to news reports, seven million Fisher-Price Trikes and Tough Trikes toddler tricycles are being recalled because kids have sustained injuries from them. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says it is aware of 10 reports of children being hurt on the plastic riding toys. Six of them required medical attention. The … Continue reading

Do I Really Need a Replacement Ring?

Earlier this year I wrote about how I broke my ring. As much as I hate looking at my naked ring finger (which always reminds me that it’s my own fault my diamond’s not perched there anymore), I realized this past Saturday I don’t want another ring. Looking at New Rings My heart hasn’t been in the shopping mood anyway, but while we were waiting for a table at Carrabba’s Saturday night, Wayne suggested we skip across the parking lot to Jared’s and see what kind of rings they had. “I really need to get you another ring. It’s been … Continue reading
