The Pets Blog Week in Review for July 14-20

With summer’s pleasures beckoning, you may not have a lot of time to keep up on the Pets Blog these days. That’s okay. Here’s your handy Week in Review to quickly break down what Aimee and I wrote on: Monday, July 14 Aimee examined the issue of canine office etiquette when you bring your dog to work. I put on my dancing shoes and interviewed Beth Terrell about her dancing puppy, Luca. Tuesday, July 15 In an article that ruffled my feathers, Aimee explained how her dog is better than most humans. (Aimee didn’t ruffle me, but what she wrote … Continue reading

The Personal Pet Therapy Project

One of my resolutions for 2008 was seeing about getting me and Murph involved in a pet therapy program. Well, recent developments have certainly seen to it that this resolution will be kept this year. A Family Affair Not only is Murphy going to be involved with the pet therapy project, but so are Mr. Meow and Tabby. And the person we’re going to concentrate our therapeutic energies on is my mom, who in addition to her dementia was also recently diagnosed with lung cancer. Grandma Dorothy Moves In On Wednesday March 19 I flew to Denver. My mom had … Continue reading

The Top Pets Blogs of 2007: January – May

Aimee and I, along with the occasional guest blogger, tried our best to bring you informative, interesting, and entertaining articles this past year. But you seemed to like some more than others. So I decided to do a Year in Review recap of the ones that you responded most to. What Makes a “Top” Blog? Even though you all may enjoy most of the blogs we write, not all of them inspire you to leave comments or rate them. Those that received star ratings made the Top Blogs cut. January 2007 Top Blogs Assistance Dogs of the West and The … Continue reading

The Pets Blog Week in Review for Feb 26-Mar 4

It’s concise, quick, and handy. For your Pets Blog pleasure, here’s the breakdown of what Aimee and myself wrote about this past week: Monday, February 26 Pets need to keep warm in cold winter weather, too, and what better way than with a coat made just for them? Aimee interviewed Holly Glover, a dog-lover who turned her talent for sewing into Project Puppy Love, which ultimately warms up the lives of shelter dogs. Speaking of warming … the weather prompted me to take Murph for a walk, which sparked “What Kind of Dog Is That?”: Why I Love My Pound … Continue reading

Project Puppy Love

With the cold weather upon us, you can warm your pups AND your heart with Project Puppy Love. I recently got the chance to pick coat designer Holly Glover’s brain about Project Puppy Love. Aimee: How did Project Puppy Love get started? What inspired you? Who got your first coats? Holly: PPL started after I made coats for my own dogs. My dogs are definitely members of the family and, like our cats, are spoiled. I decided they needed winter coats because their fur is so short that they get cold easily. Everything I saw in stores and online was … Continue reading

Preparing for Crops

Weekend scrapbooking crops are the perfect venue to learn new techniques, get inspiration from fellow scrappers and experiment with new tools.  The organized get-togethers are exciting and informative, but they can also be intimidating for newbies. Depending on how large of a crop you attend, you could be looking at scrapbooking with hundreds of other memory book builders.  In order to keep the event running smoothly, there are typically quite a few rules to consider.  When I attended my first crop the following ditty circulated around the ballroom.  It was discovered on Scrapbook.com and speaks to the unwritten rules … Continue reading

Doggone Good Fun

My 5-year-old loves dogs. So much so that she often wonders aloud: “Why didn’t God make me a dog instead of a girl?” My response: “Dogs aren’t allowed to eat chocolate.” That usually puts an end to her I-wanna-be-a-dog monologue. (My little puppy dog.) There’s no way we can raise a dog at the moment, so to placate my daughter I try to come up with ways to incorporate doggy-themed fun into our days. Here are some of her favorites puppy-themed projects: CANINE CARDS Materials: Card stock or construction paper Scissors Markers or crayons Googly eyes Glue Directions: Cut the … Continue reading

A Raincoat for Lally?

My dog Lally hates the rain. When I open the front door and she catches a glimpse of that horrible wet stuff falling from the sky, her demeanor changes immediately. Pre-walk, she’s usually excited and alert. Once she sees or feels those first few drops, her ears go down, her head drops, and she seems to draw herself in — as if to be a smaller target for the rain. Nothing bothers Moose, mind you. Rain, snow, hail… he’s unfazed. But considering how the Pacific Northwest is known for being somewhat rainy, I started thinking that maybe Lally would like … Continue reading

Rain or Shine, My Pets Are There

This hasn’t been a very easy year for me. In fact, of all my years on this Earth to date, this past one has been the most trying by far. And the most blues-filled. One After the Other It started last summer when we tried to move back to Jacksonville. Thankfully plans changed, but instead of life sailing along unencumbered as I’d hoped, I got sick in November –the same week Wayne moved home and we left to go to Denver for Thanksgiving. Then Wayne got sick, and I had a relapse and fell ill again. Come January and February … Continue reading
