Spice The Survivor

She’s not the newest member of the Spice Girls… Spice is a calico cat who spent three weeks in a shipping container without food or water and lived to meow the tale. The Escamilla family was moving from Waikoloa Village, Hawaii to a new home in Southern California. While packing up a large shipping container, three year old Spice mysteriously disappeared. The family couldn’t find the cat before their flight to their new home, and kept calling neighbors back home to see if she’d turned up. She didn’t. It turns out Spice spent the nearly three week long journey across … Continue reading

It Makes You Think

My oncologist suggested I join the support group and I did. I met some interesting older ladies but now I am dealing with the loss of one of the ladies I have become friends with. Lynn’s cancer had come back and this time it was stage 4 that had metastasized to her lungs. I did not really know how the oncologist thought that joining the group was going to be beneficial to help with my stress. How can meeting people who are going to die help me feel like I am not going to die? Lynn was an incredible woman … Continue reading

Cat Survives in Wall for Seven Weeks

I saw the headline on MSN last night and heard the story on the radio this morning: a cat survived inside the bathroom walls for seven weeks. Here’s how it happened: workers were replacing pipes in an apartment building in Stadthagen, Germany. Little black cat Bonny was last seen wandering around a neighbor’s apartment. Bonny’s owner believes that the cat snuck in underneath the bathtub and was sealed in. Owner Monika Hoppert eventually heard the little cat’s meowing from behind the tiles. At first, the woman couldn’t believe it. But eventually she realized it was indeed her missing Bonny — … Continue reading

Shaking Things Up at the Emmys and Taking Flight in Tennessee

SHAKING THINGS UP AT THE EMMYS Dare I say I am looking forward to this year’s Emmy Awards? Usually, I tune into to see who’s wearing what, and go about my chores while the show’s host and winners drone on in the background. This year, though, I think I might actually sit down and watch some of the festivities. Why the change of heart? I’m thinking this year might not be as boring as years past since there won’t be a single Emmy host this time around–there will be five. Tom Bergeron, of “Dancing With the Stars”; Ryan Seacrest, of … Continue reading

What’s Up with All the Matchmaker Shows?

Survivor started it all, but reality TV seems to constantly be looking for new ways to reinvent itself. Reality Run Down They moved from a remote tropical jungle to a concrete one with billionaire Donald Trump firing the weakest contenders. The Amazing Race tested relationships during a race around the world. Then there’s the good old rose ceremony on the Bachelor. But not all reality shows are about contests anymore. We can also peak into people’s daily lives. For instance, you can follow the life of former pop star Victoria Beckham (a.k.a. Posh Spice), see how “little people” survive in … Continue reading

Happy’s Happy Ending

How is this for an amazing adventure: a runaway dog is home after seven months in which he managed to find TWO new homes, get neutered, and get renamed. Happy — also known as Radar during his seven month adventure — ran away from his Illinois farm home in April. He had been with his family for more than two years, after human mom Misty Bowman picked him out from a friend’s litter. Human dad Rob named the dog Happy because he looked like he was always smiling. When Happy left for his wild vacation, the Bowmans looked all over … Continue reading

Celebrity Updates: “The View” Feud and “Spicy” Refusals

The world of entertainment is fluid (to say the least), which is why blogs about certain celebrities tend to require updates on a weekly basis (save for Britney Spears in which case it’s an hourly basis). The following are new takes on subjects from my previous blogs featuring the ladies of a certain ABC chatfest and a reality star in the making. “The View’s” Youngest View Much has been written about the growing animosity brewing between “View” co-hosts Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Rosie O’Donnell. Some media reports have the ladies clawing at each other during commercial breaks. While other reports (including … Continue reading
