Wagging My Tail Goodbye to the Pets Blog

I’m sitting in my office looking out the window watching the snow melt from the rooftops and bushes as I’m writing this. Last night we got measureable snow, a bit of an oddity in December for us here in Nashville. Whenever we get snow like this now I think about the first winter I was writing for Families.com. We got snow one February and I took Murph outside to play in it, then wrote about it as my blog for the day later. How much inspiration I’ve drawn from my pets over the past two years since I first began … Continue reading

Celebrating Tabby

We’ve had Tabby a year already? It seems hard to believe. It went so fast! But, yep, we have. It was one year ago today that our lives changed forever when I made the snap decision to screech to a stop in the middle of the road and snatch up the little cat lying in the middle of the street. What a year it’s been! It started out chaotic. In case you don’t remember or are a new reader, let me catch you up to speed: First we feared she might be pregnant. Then we found out she was when … Continue reading

The Top Pets Blogs of 2007: January – May

Aimee and I, along with the occasional guest blogger, tried our best to bring you informative, interesting, and entertaining articles this past year. But you seemed to like some more than others. So I decided to do a Year in Review recap of the ones that you responded most to. What Makes a “Top” Blog? Even though you all may enjoy most of the blogs we write, not all of them inspire you to leave comments or rate them. Those that received star ratings made the Top Blogs cut. January 2007 Top Blogs Assistance Dogs of the West and The … Continue reading

Mr. Meow and Tabby’s Chaotic Cat Chronicles: The Mystery of the Garage

Photo by Marius Largu It seems every week Tabby develops a new disturbing behavior. If she’s not waking me up whacking the blinds at night, she’s waking me up whacking her Wiffie all over the place. In the last week she’s developed yet another obsessive quirk: desperately wanting to get into the garage. (Thankfully this one doesn’t involve waking me up at night. Heaven knows one of us Pets Bloggers has enough trouble with that sort of thing –i.e. Aimee’s Lally wake up calls.) In our other house Mr. Meow used to love when I’d prop the door open and … Continue reading

Tabby and Mr. Meow: Friends (And Playmates) At Last

Mr. Meow letting Tabby share his leather chair. Ever since I found Tabby and became a foster cat mom, she and Mr. Meow have had “issues.” If you’re new to reading my blogs, let me catch you up: The First Three Weeks Things were fine to start with. They tolerated being in the same rooms together, but kept a healthy distance. It was during Tab’s fourth week with us that things started changing… The Pregnancy During that fourth week she suddenly got just plain nasty towards Mr. Meow. She’d chase him from our bedroom and eventually got so territorial he … Continue reading

Tabby’s Eating Disorder

Let me start this blog off with a disclaimer: Weight is no laughing matter. I’m about to make light of something involving eating and weight in this blog, but my intention is not to offend anyone. I’ve been overweight most of my life, so I’m well aware how sensitive a topic this is. Apparently, Tabby and I are kindred spirits. We both have an eating disorder: If we see food, we eat it. However, she’s a little bit worse than I am. She eats EVERYONE’S food. My main downfall is sweets. (Hey, they say you are what you eat and … Continue reading

Tabby: Even the Best Vets Goof

When I very first found Tabby in the middle of the road, the vet I rushed her to was great. It wasn’t our family vet because I wasn’t near them. I was only a couple miles from Banfield Pet Hospital, and, not knowing how bad off Tabby might be, I decided just to go to them. However, in the three months since we’ve had her, a couple of their initial observations have proved wrong. Room for Error I’m not trying to impugn anyone’s character here. That’s not the point. Mistakes happen. And in this case there was room for error. … Continue reading

Pets Are Wonderful Month: My Tribute to Murphy, Mr. Meow, and Tabby

Did you know in addition to being Animal Cruelty Prevention Month it’s also Pets Are Wonderful Month? I already covered a couple reasons why I think my pets are wonderful in Bless the Pets Who Forgive Us Our Trespasses, but here’s some others specific to each of them: Why Murphy’s Wonderful • Because he’s so easy going and tolerant. • Because he’s one heck of a good listener. I can grumble to him or sing to him (my singing is horrible, maybe even worse than my grumbling), and he just sits there wagging his tail. • Because he’s so gentle … Continue reading

Tabby Gets a Clean Bill of Health (Finally!)

She’s been spayed, suffered mastitis, and endured an erupting pus incident. Regarding that last mentioned drama, it took the better part of the first day for the pus to eventually slow to an occasional trickle. By the next day, the lesion was only leaking a little bit every now and then. But Tabby’s spirits remained high, and she was as loving as she’d ever been, if not more so. Murphy, who Tabby’s adopted as her dog, didn’t know what to think when she was so sick two weeks ago. He’d come in to check on her with me and look … Continue reading

Tabby’s Second Emergency Trip to the Vet

Okay, this little cat is causing my heart a lot of trauma. First there was the way I found her, then there was her spay surgery, where I not only learned she had been pregnant but which led to complications. Then yesterday there was “the rupture.” The Red Spot: Tuesday 9:45 a.m. After her bout with mastitis last week, Tabby rebounded beautifully over the weekend. By Monday she was almost completely back to normal. Tuesday morning a tech from Dr. Singleton’s office called to check on Tabby. I told them she was doing fine, then reached down to pet her … Continue reading
