Chaotic Cat Chronicles: The Cats vs. The Oxygen Machine

When my mom fell sick a few weeks back she was put on oxygen while in the hospital. Since her oxygen saturation level still wasn’t where it should be when she was released, they had to put her on oxygen at home. At her house she had the same set up we ended up getting for her once I brought her here. It’s a little machine with tubing (we call it her tether) that lets her roam pretty much everywhere while still being connected to the oxygen. Since she has no pets, she could wander at will at her house … Continue reading

Babysitting Duties for Murphy, Mr. Meow, and Tabby

Yesterday morning around seven I got a call from our across the street neighbor and good friend Cindy. She was in a pinch. Her second oldest boy, Josh, was sick, but she was supposed to set up the book fair at their school that day. “Is there anyway you can watch him for a few hours?” “Of course!” Initially she needed to drop him off at 7:30 when she left to take her other son to school, but her husband decided to take the morning off. That way she could set up until about noon, come home, and he could … Continue reading

Chaotic Cat Chronicles: What Pretty Roses…

Today as part of our Proposalversary celebrations, Wayne surprised me by having half a dozen red roses delivered to the house. (a.k.a. My place of business.) The flowers are for me, but try telling that to the cats. Shredded Petals Make Such a Pretty Mess Pre-Tabby, Mr. Meow was bad enough on his own about getting into flowers. Roses are most definitely his favorite. I don’t know that he actually eats the petals. Mainly he loves to pluck the petals to pieces. (Leaving a trail of shreds in his wake.) Now whether Tabby would’ve developed this trait on her own … Continue reading

Celebrating Tabby

We’ve had Tabby a year already? It seems hard to believe. It went so fast! But, yep, we have. It was one year ago today that our lives changed forever when I made the snap decision to screech to a stop in the middle of the road and snatch up the little cat lying in the middle of the street. What a year it’s been! It started out chaotic. In case you don’t remember or are a new reader, let me catch you up to speed: First we feared she might be pregnant. Then we found out she was when … Continue reading

Chaotic Cat Chronicles: The Potty Pact

Back in the dark days of this year when poor Tabby harassed Mr. Meow every chance she got even litter box time wasn’t sacred. There was one time, before her pregnancy hormones kicked into high gear and she got so nuts she’d attack him every time she saw him, that was kind of funny though. She decided to be a booger and planted herself in front of Mr. Meow’s potty box and didn’t budge until I moved her. (I wrote about it in Tabby Time: Adjusting to a New Family Member under the “Pottytime” heading.) But for a few months … Continue reading

Diary of a Cat Care B&B: The Characters

Proof that I truly am an animal lover: I’ve found something to love about every cat I’ve met so far at work. There are certain personality types I’ve noticed, just in the short time I’ve been working at the cat boarding facility. The Playful Cat: this type of cat will catch you by surprise — usually with a paw to the leg as you pass by. He or she will bat at anything, and may engage in adorable paw wars with the cat in the room above or below. The Cranky Cat: this type of cat wants nothing to do … Continue reading

Chaotic Cat Chronicles: The Case of the Missing Wiffie

We’ve got a big problem in our house. Tabby’s beloved wiffie is missing. I sort of feared this very thing happening. She has other toys, her huts, and even a new “crinkle cave,” but her all-time, number one favorite is her wiffie. Tabby in the crinkle cave. It wasn’t until yesterday that I realized something was missing. There hadn’t been a certain nighttime racket either preventing me from falling to sleep or waking me up. Then it dawned on me, “She hasn’t been whapping her wiffie around!” Which was a relief to realize, because poor Tab just hasn’t been herself … Continue reading

Mr. Meow and Tabby’s Chaotic Cat Chronicles: The Mystery of the Garage

Photo by Marius Largu It seems every week Tabby develops a new disturbing behavior. If she’s not waking me up whacking the blinds at night, she’s waking me up whacking her Wiffie all over the place. In the last week she’s developed yet another obsessive quirk: desperately wanting to get into the garage. (Thankfully this one doesn’t involve waking me up at night. Heaven knows one of us Pets Bloggers has enough trouble with that sort of thing –i.e. Aimee’s Lally wake up calls.) In our other house Mr. Meow used to love when I’d prop the door open and … Continue reading

Pets Are Wonderful Month: My Tribute to Murphy, Mr. Meow, and Tabby

Did you know in addition to being Animal Cruelty Prevention Month it’s also Pets Are Wonderful Month? I already covered a couple reasons why I think my pets are wonderful in Bless the Pets Who Forgive Us Our Trespasses, but here’s some others specific to each of them: Why Murphy’s Wonderful • Because he’s so easy going and tolerant. • Because he’s one heck of a good listener. I can grumble to him or sing to him (my singing is horrible, maybe even worse than my grumbling), and he just sits there wagging his tail. • Because he’s so gentle … Continue reading

What to Do About Tabby?

I’m in a real conundrum. I’ve always had dogs and sort of know how to “read” and discipline them when there are problems. Cats, on the other hand, are another matter entirely. In the Beginning Mr. Meow has been an awesome cat. He’s never misbehaved or been anything except remarkably affectionate and loyal. Tabby is proving to be the same way. She’s a loving snuggle bug who prefers nothing better than being wherever her people are and/or her Murphy is, preferably in our laps or nestled against Murph. But introduce Mr. Meow into that picture? She turns into Tabby the … Continue reading
