A college trunk party can help your student gather all of the items that he or she will need for college, keep you on budget and give everyone a reason to celebrate the milestone of going into higher learning. You can suggest the girls arrive in their dress up clothes or provide an array of clothing for them. Roll out red bulletin board paper or a red bed sheet if you want … Continue reading

Football Playoff Party Fun

The NFL Playoffs continue this Sunday as the road to the Super Bowl heats up. Of course, no place is hotter right now than Green Bay, Wisconsin, where the Packers are looking to win back-to-back Super Bowls. I happen to live near legendary Lambeau Field–a.k.a. Party Central–and while I don’t have tickets to the big game versus the New York Giants, I will be partying it up along with the rest of the state’s residents. Only our pre-Super Bowl shindigs will be taking place in the comfort of our homes. If you are planning to host a NFL Playoff party … Continue reading

Puppy Party Fun

Happy birthday, Haka! My neighbor’s dog turned 13 last week and to celebrate she threw him a super soiree that outdid parties I’ve attend for humans. Of course, my neighbor treats her dog like a child—even though he is 91 in human years—so a full-blown pooch party really is not an unexpected move on her part. She requested that human guests dress up like dogs to make the birthday pup feel loved. My 6-year-old wore a white sweat suit that I decorated with black fabric spots and I wore a store-bought doggie Halloween mask, black pants and a black shirt. … Continue reading

Eating Out with Dogs

On Sunday I was supposed to attend a fundraising party for a rescue located north of Washington, DC. At the last minute the party organizers had to reschedule it, so I found myself with the afternoon now free. I still wanted to see a friend I was going to meet at the party, but now we had to find somewhere new to go where we could also bring Chihiro, whom I had with me. We decided to go to Great Sage, a restaurant specializing in organic green cuisine. I’m always up for something new, and I liked the idea of … Continue reading

First Swine Flu Case Confirmed in Dogs

A little over a month ago, the news came that family pets were coming down with swine flu (H1N1). Cats and ferrets were catching swine flu from sick owners. Now it looks like dogs are at risk for swine flu, too. A thirteen year old dog in New York was diagnosed with swine flu this month. He was showing signs of having difficulty breathing, so his owner brought him to the vet’s office. Because the owner had recently recovered from swine flu, the veterinarian decided to have the dog tested. Two separate labs — including Iowa State University, where first … Continue reading
