Golden Globes: Did Jodie Foster Come Out?

Last night’s Golden Globes was a great night of pretty dresses, good jokes, lots of drinks, and a few odd moments.  I have to lump Jodie Foster’s speech under the odd category. The actress (who I think is absolutely incredible at her craft) received the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award.  She walked on stage looking stunning – the blue dress was beautiful and matched her eye color perfectly.  She looked gorgeous and young, but reminded the crowd she was 50. The speech itself was rather scattered to me.  She seemed to ramble about her age … Continue reading

Last year, PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive title went to Bradley Cooper but not without much hullabaloo from fans of Ryan Gosling. In fact, there was speculation this year that maybe Gosling would receive the title. But, no, this year is all about Channing Tatum and today, he was named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive. Tatum has starred in four movies this year – Haywire, The Vow, 21 Jump Street, and Magic Mike, which have grossed over $589 million worldwide. Housework and Home Business

My colleague, Sara Berthiaume, recently wrote a post called, Keeping House While Working from Home. She touches on an issue that many work at home moms are faced with. How in the world can you keep your home clean while building a business from home? Keeping a home is a big job. Don’t be fooled by those who want you to believe if you keep a home and raise a family you are not doing enough. Believe me, you are doing plenty! Caring for a home and a family can be overwhelming so when you add to it a home … Continue reading

Fun Graduation Party Themes

It’s a milestone that screams, “PARTY!” Graduating from high school, college, or even kindergarten is a huge deal for students and their families. So how do you commemorate such an auspicious occasion? Typically, commencement celebrations take place at the graduate’s favorite restaurant or at home with an informal gathering. However, if you are looking to spice up your once-in-a-lifetime shindig, consider the following themes: Reunions: Reunited and it feels so good. This theme works especially well for a college graduation party. Reunite your grad with a bunch of his old high school friends who may have moved to various parts … Continue reading

Hitting Close to Home

A few weeks ago our washing machine died after suffering a long and agonizing battle with a litany of ailments. As luck would have it, dealing with the death of the washer paled in comparison to coordinating the delivery of a new machine with a well-known big-box appliance retailer. “I’m about to pull out all my hair,” I exclaimed after hanging up the phone with what had to be the most unprofessional customer representative outside of the commercial aviation industry. “Oh Mommy,” my 7-year-old daughter responded a bit sheepishly. “I don’t think you will look good bald.” She’s right. Actually, … Continue reading

Comedian Jokes About Special Needs Children at Palin Event

A comedian named Eric Golub told a joke at an event that most people would find to be distasteful. He compared liberal political ideology to “special needs children”. This occurred at an event for Sarah Palin, who is the mother of a child who has Down Syndrome. For a moment, put aside whatever you happen to think about politician Sarah Palin, or her political ideology. In this particular situation, the most relevant thing about the former governor of Alaska is that she is a mother to a child who has special needs. Her son, Trig Palin, has Down syndrome. Recently, … Continue reading

Genealogy Jokes and Funnies

Any genealogist knows that they have just as good of a sense of humor as anyone else. However, people who are not genealogists may unfairly view genealogists as dry and boring due to the amount of time that they spend researching and checking facts. Here are a few genealogy jokes and quips from around the web that will have everyone, genealogists and non – genealogists alike, roaring with laughter. Perhaps non – genealogists will see how funny genealogy jokes are and realize that underneath the serious and meticulous nature of a genealogist there is definitely plenty of room for humor. … Continue reading

Farmers Insurance to Appear in Zynga Games This Summer

If you have a Facebook account, then odds are that you have had things posted on your page by your friends who want you to play one of the many games that exist in Facebook. Lots of those are made by a company named Zynga. Last year, Farmers Insurance made an appearance in Farmville. There are bigger plans for Farmers Insurance and Zynga this year. Farmers Insurance is an actual, “real life”, insurance company. They sell auto insurance, homeowners insurance, life insurance, and insurance for businesses. This insurance company seems to think outside of the box when it comes to … Continue reading
