The Top Pets Blogs of 2007: January – May

Aimee and I, along with the occasional guest blogger, tried our best to bring you informative, interesting, and entertaining articles this past year. But you seemed to like some more than others. So I decided to do a Year in Review recap of the ones that you responded most to. What Makes a “Top” Blog? Even though you all may enjoy most of the blogs we write, not all of them inspire you to leave comments or rate them. Those that received star ratings made the Top Blogs cut. The Pets Blog Week in Review for Feb 5-11

What were the top tips and scorching scoops last week? You’ve come to the right place to get the Pets Blog breakdown of the stories Aimee and I covered. Monday, February 5 The Colts might have won Super Bowl XLI, but Puppy Bowl III was the hot topic around our water cooler Monday morning. In fact, puppies dominated the day because Aimee had a big experience last weekend: her first volunteer animal transport! Read about it in The Open Road and a Carload of Puppies. Tuesday, February 6 We met RITA Award-Winning Author Linnea Sinclair and Her Cover Model Cat … Continue reading

The Open Road and a Carload of Puppies

Back in March I started to learn more about volunteer animal transports. A group of animal lovers share the driving duties to help get shelter pets from a dangerous situation (like a high volume kill shelter) to a safe one (like a no-kill shelter, foster home, or forever home). I had signed up for one transport, but last minute changes meant I wasn’t needed. Between schedule conflicts and other excuses, I finally got my chance to do my first transport on Saturday the 3rd. Let me just say — I was kind of nervous. I didn’t really know what was … Continue reading

Move Over, Batmobile!

My dog Miko loved my old station wagon. It was a Ford Country Squire LTD — a huge island of car with wood paneling, pleather bench seating and lots of windows. Miko would stand on the armrests and stick his head out the open window and “surf” while I drove. The station wagon I have now (a Hyundai Elantra wagon) is somewhat smaller, but still has plenty of room for Moose and Lally to ride along. Moose often sprawls out on the back seat while Lally hops over the seat into the back of the car and makes a nest … Continue reading

Puppy Bowl IV Play-by-Play

Did you catch any of Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl IV? The last couple of years I’ve usually only been able to watch part of it. But this year Wayne had some work to do, so I planted myself in front of the TV with a project of my own (folding buckets-worth of laundry) and watched even more than usual. Player Introductions Somehow I managed to miss most of this both times I was able to catch the start of the show. I liked how they introduced them by name, breed, age, and with a description of something about them. For … Continue reading

Be Kind to Animals Week 2007: How to Participate

This week (May 6-12) is Be Kind to Animals Week. The American Humane Association started this national awareness week 92 years ago, in 1915. Their mission was the same then as it is today: to raise awareness about the importance of being kind to animals, and to educate people about the importance and impact animals have on our lives. Be a Part of It! Aimee and I are both big time animal lovers. (Naturally. You’d hope to have such people assigned to the Pets Blog, wouldn’t you? The managers at Families.com excel at placing bloggers in appropriate subjects, but I … Continue reading
