Dog Breeds: Pug

Last (but certainly not least!) in a look at the seven Best in Show entries at the 130th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is the Toy Group entry… the Pug! Single Parenting Blogger Babe and Pug Momma Fran Hopkins was kind enough to share pics of her babies, Cocoa and Sandy. Don’t tell Fran, but I’m going to break into her house so I can hug those cuties! Pugs have a pretty distinctive look – the wrinkly, smushed up face with a bit of an underbite. They typically have a dark “mask” and ears… and a little curled up … Continue reading

The Pug

Pugs are strange-looking dogs. They are so cute, but they are ugly too. They kind of look like piglets with their wrinkled face, curly tail and short body. These dogs come in 4 colors: black, apricot, silver and fawn. They have a short coat that is very easy to groom. Please note that just because a dog has a short coat it doesn’t mean that you don’t have to brush it! Pugs tend to shed a lot. Also, since small dog breeds are prone to teeth problems you want to make sure you brush their teeth frequently. Health wise since … Continue reading

Meeting the Neighbor Dogs: Part 2

A month or two ago I wrote about how the neighbor’s dog began visiting our yard during the day.  I thought maybe interacting with him could help Chihiro calm down about other dogs.  Unfortunately, I think the opposite has happened. I really should have known better.  Chihiro has been wary of other dogs ever since getting attacked by one (even though she won the fight, because the dog that started it was a little Puggle), so when teaching her to feel comfortable again around other dogs, I should take her to neutral territory with dogs I know and trust. For … Continue reading

Koshik the Talking Elephant

Could our next best friend be an elephant?  Maybe not for most of us here stateside, where we’re not exactly equipped to properly look after pachyderms.  But the news out of a zoo in South Korea, reported by BBC News, shows that an elephant has entered the next stage of the human-animal bond: talking. Before now, the only animals we could conceive of really being able to replicate our speech were parrots.  Now elephants are joining the list.  Koshik is a 12-year-old Asian elephant that lives at a zoo in South Korea.  When he started making sounds that his keepers thought … Continue reading

Timberlake and Biel’s Wedding Video

As you probably know by now, one of the most anticipated weddings of the year took place last weekend. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were married last Friday at the Borgo Egnazia Resort in Puglia, Italy before family and friends. The couple, who have been dating on and off since 2007, reportedly called their wedding “magical.” Now you may be thinking I have confused my pop culture blog with my green blog, but wait, let me explain. This wedding is thought to have cost $6.5 million. Now, I know Biel and Timberlake are young, beautiful, talented, and earned every bit … Continue reading

And the Two Shall Become One

There is a verse in the Bible that says a man and woman will leave their father and mother and the two shall become one. The idea isn’t that you are no longer two separate beings (because you are), but that your lives are now so intertwined with each other that you blend together. The hope is that as you go through marriage, you will make decisions as one. You will love as one. You will stand as one. I don’t know about you. But I don’t always feel like I am “one” with my husband. While there are many … Continue reading

Can Women Have It All?

It’s an age-old debate come to surface again recently. A former State Department policymaker, Anne-Marie Slaughter, admitted to “The Atlantic” that her attempt at trying to balance work and family didn’t go as she would have liked. It comes down to the issue of, “Can a woman have it all?” Can she work outside of her home and take care of her family? And can she do it without having regrets or feeling guilt? After Slaughter admitted to her struggles, other working moms began to voice their opinions. They would like to see more flexibility on the job as well. … Continue reading

Do You Pay Attention to Street Signs?

Stop. Slow Children at Play. Do Not Pass. Yield. Merge. We see these words and phrases on signs as we travel along roads across the United States, but how often do we really heed the warning? I readily admit that I’ve come to a rolling stop on more than just a few occasions. In fact, three years ago, I was pulled over for failing to come to a complete stop at an intersection between a middle school and a high school. Fortunately, I got off with just a warning. Had the police officer not been so generous I would’ve had … Continue reading
