Faith Renounced: The “Royal” Price of Marriage

Yesterday Windsor Castle was the setting of a royal marriage. Queen Elizabeth II’s oldest grandson, Peter Phillips, married Canadian Autumn Kelly. From what I can tell, Peter’s one of the lower profile royals. (Meaning, he keeps a low profile by choice.) In fact, he did not immediately reveal to Autumn that he even was a royal. She only realized it when she saw a program about Prince William and spotted Peter as part of it. What’s interesting about their marriage is what she gave up: her faith. She still believes in God, of course, but she was Roman Catholic. She … Continue reading

My Favorite Pet Blogs from the Past Year

Below is a list of my favorite articles I wrote during the past year, often with an explanation of what made them memorable. Five Non-Cash Ways to Help Animals/Shelters this Holiday Season: This was my first article to have a comment left on it. Is It Ever Okay to Kick a Dog?: This was my first article to ever get stars. The BMK Fund: This practice is very near and dear to my heart and it was neat to have a platform such as blogging for Families.com to share it on. How to Put Your Shopping Dollars to Work Helping … Continue reading

The Pets Blog Week in Review for Jun 18-24

Another week has passed, summer arrived, and there was no Moose, Lally, Murphy, Kitty or Tabby chaos to report. (Phew!) Which means it was a quiet, yet productive, week here in the Pets Blog. Here’s what Aimee and I covered on: Monday, June 18 Were you curious how Murphy, Tabby, and Kitty did for Father’s Day? If so, you’ll be happy to know all went well. Tuesday, June 19 Did you know the Queen of England is a royal dog lover? I didn’t, but of all the things to learn about her after watching the movie “The Queen” that was … Continue reading

The Queen: A Royal Dog Lover

I’d heard a lot about the movie The Queen starring Helen Mirren (who did as fantastic a job as was touted, by the way) so I Netflixed it and finally had a chance to watch it the other day. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was not expecting to find out the Queen of England was such a dog lover. In the movie, she’s portrayed as stoic, well-controlled and the epitome of good breeding, refinement and manners. That’s what I would expect. I was not expecting dogs to be in the movie at all –much less allowed inside … Continue reading

Patriotic Paraphernalia for Pets

In honor of President’s Day, and because this is an election year, I thought today would be the primo day to talk about some of the patriotic pet paraphernalia I’ve seen around lately. “Patriotic paraphernalia? What are you talking about? Presidential candidates are getting pets into the act?” I haven’t run across anything like that yet. (But it wouldn’t surprise me if someone’s campaign had “Vote for X” or “X in ‘08” bandanas or something. If they don’t, they should think about that.) No, what I’m referring to is all the different red, white, and blue pet products I’ve seen … Continue reading
