Celebrating Tabby

We’ve had Tabby a year already? It seems hard to believe. It went so fast! But, yep, we have. It was one year ago today that our lives changed forever when I made the snap decision to screech to a stop in the middle of the road and snatch up the little cat lying in the middle of the street. What a year it’s been! It started out chaotic. In case you don’t remember or are a new reader, let me catch you up to speed: First we feared she might be pregnant. Then we found out she was when … Continue reading

Tabby and Mr. Meow: Friends (And Playmates) At Last

Mr. Meow letting Tabby share his leather chair. Ever since I found Tabby and became a foster cat mom, she and Mr. Meow have had “issues.” If you’re new to reading my blogs, let me catch you up: The First Three Weeks Things were fine to start with. They tolerated being in the same rooms together, but kept a healthy distance. It was during Tab’s fourth week with us that things started changing… The Pregnancy During that fourth week she suddenly got just plain nasty towards Mr. Meow. She’d chase him from our bedroom and eventually got so territorial he … Continue reading

Swimming with Kangaroos and Author/Publisher/Pet Rescuer Dindy Robinson: Part II

In Part I of my interview with Dindy Robinson we talked about her animal rescues. This section is all about her adorable cats… Courtney Mroch: What kind of pets do you have now? Names, ages, breeds, etc? Dindy Robinson: We don’t have any dogs right now –our last dog died in January after thirteen happy years with us. We have seven cats –all rescues. Gollum is a gray male tiger, about 4.5 years old. When we first got him, he nearly died from a stomach virus. He had very smelly, running diarrhea. We had to wrap him in a towel … Continue reading

Mr. Meow vs. the Clippers

Not too long ago a debate raged in our household about whether or not to declaw Tabby. That debate has sort of died out ever since I “cowboyed up” and learned to trim Tab’s nails. I’ve had a couple more successful goes at Tabby’s toes. She doesn’t mind me touching her paws and clipping away one bit. All I have to do is catch her in just the right docile mood. I’ve even gotten pretty proficient and quick at it. So much so I’ve decided to direct my newfound talents on the other four-legged members of our family, like Murphy. … Continue reading

The Great Cat Rehabilitation Project: Even Further Progress!

Yesterday, I wrote in the Week in Review blog that June’s going to be all about cats, cats, cats. Partially because Adopt-A-Shelter Cat Month started June 1, but also because since Friday I’ve had nothing but cats on the brain, thanks to Tabby and Mr. Meow. It all started about two weeks ago, when they made huge strides tolerating each other again, like they had done in the very beginning. I dared to hope that my positive reinforcement approach was working. By the end of May, The Great Cat Rehabilitation Project was nearly complete. All I needed to see Mr. … Continue reading

Hug Your Cat Day: Come Here, Tabby and Mr. Meow!

Tabby (left) and Mr. Meow (right) I woke up to Tabby-lovin’ snuggle hugs even before I knew it was Hug Your Cat Day. (For Tabby, every day is Hug Your Human Day. We start the festivities bright and early every morning.) Then (I still didn’t know at this point what today was), I bestowed huge hugs and love on Mr. Meow when I got up because I found him halfway up the stairs as I stumbled out of the bedroom. (This is very significant. Tabby and Mr. Meow have been making huge strides lately in what I like to call … Continue reading

The Great Cat Rehabilitation Project: Almost Complete

Houston, we don’t have a problem anymore! At least, not the major ones we’d been having. The huge strides that started taking place between Tabby and Mr. Meow over a week ago continues to advance. All it took was Mr. Meow striking back. It looks as if Tabby’s reign of chaos is done. Halleluiah! What a rough few months it’s been. Obviously, her pregnancy had a lot to do with her behavior. More and more she behaves towards Mr. Meow like she used to when she very first arrived. Which wasn’t sweet or loving necessarily, but it also wasn’t with … Continue reading

The Pets Blog Week in Review for May 21-27

Delivered for your reading pleasure is another installment of the Pets Blog Week in Review. Below you’ll find all the topics Aimee and I covered the previous week. Monday, May 21 Poor Aimee, Moose and Lally! They just arrive in their new town, find a great dog park, and what happens? Poor Moose gets attacked! Aimee tells all about it in You Should Have Seen the Other Guy? This incident also sparked her to write about dog aggression in general. The days of aggression in my household (except mine is cat-based) might be nearing an end as there have been … Continue reading

Mr. Meow Strikes Back

Not THE leather chair, but an old one Mr. Meow likes to sleep on in my office. The cat I knew pre-Tabby is back! (Almost.) He’s not 100% there yet, but he’s close. I wrote yesterday about the huge strides he’s made insofar as getting off his leather chair, coming into the kitchen, and even making an appearance in my office. But even bigger than all of those combined was what he did not once yesterday, but twice, and then again this morning. Tabby is a colossal pig. She eats everything! Paper (okay, she doesn’t exactly eat this, just rips … Continue reading

The Tabby and Mr. Meow Saga: Huge Strides!

Could it be…? Is it possible…? Is that Mr. Meow I spy somewhere other than the leather chair? It started about two weeks ago, when Mr. Meow dared to get off his leather chair and venture into other parts of the house. (See: Yes, Virginia, It Is Possible for Cats and Dogs to Get Along.) First he grew comfortable negotiating the kitchen scene again. As I wrote about in the above referenced article, he now jumps up on the counters to keep me company while I wash dishes or prepare dinner. He’s kept that up, making an appearance every day … Continue reading
