The Pets Blog Week in Review for Jul 23-29

There was one issue in particular that dominated this week in the Pets Blog –dogfighting! Both Aimee and myself had plenty to say on that issue. But we covered other things as well. To find out what, consult your week-at-a-glance breakdown below. Monday, July 23 Aimee wrote about a group in Pennsylvania called Dogs Deserve Better. They’re trying to raise awareness about the cruelty and dangers of chaining via an event called Unchain the Fifty, where they try to get one person in each state to spend a minimum of eight hours chained to a doghouse. It isn’t usually the dog’s fault that he is loose — an owner is responsible for containing the dog. Higher penalties for owners who violate leash laws may … Continue reading

More “Bad Newz” for Michael Vick (With Hopefully More to Come)

Michael Vick should have stuck to football instead of getting involved in dogfighting. After all, football was his claim to fame. The 2001 number one draft pick who last year made history as the first quarterback to ever rush over 1,000 yards is now making history for something much less admirable. In fact, it’s downright despicable. Dogfigthing. It all started back in May when suspicions of dogfighting operations on his property came to light. What investigators found was simply awful. Dogs that had been killed in the most inhumane ways possible: hanged, electrocuted, shot, and even slammed to death on … Continue reading
