Wagging My Tail Goodbye to the Pets Blog

I'm sitting in my office looking out the window watching the snow melt from the rooftops and bushes as I'm writing this. Last night we got measureable snow, a bit of an oddity in December for us here in Nashville.

Whenever we get snow like this now I think about the first winter I was writing for Families.com. We got snow one February and I took Murph outside to play in it, then wrote about it as my blog for the day later.

How much inspiration I've drawn from my pets over the past two years since I first began writing here. Heaven knows most of the first year was spent learning about and trying to understand cat behavior thanks to Tabby's introduction to our household.

What a mess she was in those early days! So much worry she caused me. First finding out she was pregnant, then the mastitis debacle, then instituting the great cat rehabilitation project so she'd quit harassing poor Mr. Meow.

And Mr. Meow...who knew he could be vulnerable? His creepy cat ways were not impervious to all forms of sabotage after all. Tabby proved that.

But then they also taught me about hope and not giving up. That friendships can be forged where it seemed only animosity might reign supreme forever. About keeping a good attitude no matter what obstacles are thrown your way. (Murph's been the shining example of that lesson lately.)

Ah yes, the snow is making me realize that after today I won't be sharing personal pet anecdotes here anymore. But I'm very grateful I've had the chance to do that these past two years. You've all been so wonderful to humor me and the way I view raising my pets.

So thanks for the smiles, the kitty hugs and puppy dog kisses, the laughter, and even letting me shed some tears. And thanks for posting comments and sharing your own stories, too. I've enjoyed hearing about your pet tales as much as I've enjoyed writing about my own.

I hope that one day we might meet again. Until then, I bid you all a fond adieu.
