What Does Your Local Humane Society or Shelter Need?

Do you know what kind of things your local humane society or shelter could use? I know shelters can always use food, money, and volunteers but on a recent trip to the Nashville Humane Society I was impressed to find flyers listing the things they needed.

The Nashville Humane Society's "Things We Need" List

1. Small, medium and large Milk Bones
2. Towels
3. 13 gallon and 55 gallon trash bags
4. Paper towels
5. All sizes of collars
6. 6 foot dog leashes
7. Small, medium and large binder clips
8. Rubber or plastic dog and cat toys
9. Non-scoopable cat litter
10. Purina or Meow Mix Kitten Chow
11. Letter and legal-sized pads
12. Quart and gallon-sized Ziplock bags
13. Copy paper
14. All sizes of paper clips
15. OdoBan
16. Bleach
17. Peanut butter for Kongs

What I'm Planning on Donating

I've been donating to the ASCPA here and there throughout the year, but lately I've really felt the pull to put the BMK Fund to even more use. (I always get hit with an urge to give when November hits and the holidays draw near for some reason.) So here's what I'm planning on donating this month:

1. Towels: As I commented back to Jade on one of my blogs over in Marriage, I've been in closet clean out mode. One of the things that would free up space is getting rid of some of our old towels. Since I'd just donate them to Goodwill anyway, I'd feel even better giving them to the Nashville Humane Society.
2. Milk Bones: All dogs need treats, maybe shelter dogs more than most.
3. Trash bags.
4. Cat and dog toys: When I think about how spoiled my crew is, but the countless pups and kitties who would be overjoyed to have a toy to keep them company in lock-up, I think even Wayne could pardon my pet toy spending habit so some less fortunate animals could have some fun.
5. Peanut butter: This is one of Murph's favorite indulgences. And a few jars of peanut butter wouldn't cost me that much, but oh the hours of Kong-licking pleasure it'll bring to a shelter dog!

I'm even already thinking ahead to donating again next month. (Actually, I'm thinking of maybe making it something I do monthly.) But next month more toys, cat litter, cat chow, and bleach will all be on the list.

Above I mentioned how I tend to get hit with the giving bug come November. Do you ever get that way too?
